THE ANCIENT KINGDOM OF MEATH

Meath

The cast for magical tales of yore reside in Meath – here you will find High Kings, monks, Vikings, Normans, castles, crosses, wise fish, singing stones, witches that leap hills, wandering minstrels....

An essential part of any visit to Meath is the passage grave at Newgrange, hundreds of years older than the pyramids and beautifully restored.  Other passage graves include Knowth & Dowth, and Loughcrew.

The ancient High Kings of Ireland held their seat at the Hill of Tara for over 2,000 years, and celebrated their “Olympian” games at Tailteann. The famous Book of Kells was completed in Kells which also has boasts a round tower and several crosses.

Fantastic tales of knights and ladies were reality in monumental Anglo Norman castles in Trim. The Boyne River is the site of one of the most important battles in Ireland's history.

You can enjoy a wide range of activities in Meath, from coarse and game angling to shooting and golf.
